Document is a video installation consisting of three projections on paper screens hung in the shape of a triangle. The screens capture the projection, but they also let the light through, making the images visible on both sides. From one direction, one hears a rhythmic, pulsating sound; from another, one hears the sound of water dripping and of a cloth being wrung; from yet another, one hears camera flashes. The images are blurry and in low resolution, and show a girl's face, a woman who speaks to her, wet clothes, someone who wipes the floor, glances, a change of clothes, and white fabrics. Document is a documentation of a ritual occurrence, but instead of emphasizing the established meaning and hierarchy of the ritual, the installation zooms in on the chores, objects, materials, and sounds that are active in the ritual’s periphery. Showing footage from the same ritual event, but from different moments in that event, the three projections break up the established dramaturgy of the ritual. Thus, by displacing the elements that have the capacity to make the ritual important to those involved, the installation destabilizes the taken for granted significance of the ritual and opens it up to other possible meanings.
Dokument är en videoinstallation med tre projektioner på pappersskärmar hängda i en triangel. Pappret fångar upp projektionen men släpper också igenom ljuset så att bilden blir synlig på båda sidor av skärmen. Från ett håll hörs ett rytmiskt, pulserande ljud, från ett annat hörs droppande vatten och en trasa som vrids ur, från ett tredje hörs fotoblixtar. Bilderna är oskarpa, lågupplösta, och visar en tjejs ansikte, en ung kvinna som tilltalar henne, blöta kläder, någon som torkar golv, blickar, klädombyte och vita tyger. Dokument är en dokumentation av ett rituellt skeende, men istället för att lägga fokus på ritualens givna mening och hierarki så zoomar installationen in på de sysslor, objekt, material och ljud som är aktiva i ritualens periferi. De tre projektionerna i installationen visar bilder från samma rituella skeende men från skiftande tidpunkter i detta skeende, och bryter därmed upp ritualens dramaturgi. En omfördelning av vilka beståndsdelar i ritualen som har kapacitet att vara betydelsebärande för dem som deltar medför en destabilisering av ritualens fastlagda mening och öppnar upp för andra möjliga innebörder.
